One Exercise to Improve your relationship.
Oftentimes couples will report to me that they feel less connected to their partner. They will state that managing their lives sometimes feels like they are on autopilot with no time to connect. I will recommend this exercise for them to try to help them start to connect more. It’s easy and can only take a few minutes a day.
Speaker:
Tell your partner one good thing that happened today, one not so good thing that happened today, and one thing you are looking forward to.
Listener:
While you are listening to your partner make sure to really listen. Put down the phone, make eye contact, and ask open ended questions to show interest
Rules:
- Switch roles once complete
- Do once a day for 1 week
- Do not repeat the same things you are looking forward to, and do not repeat your partners answers
- When you are the listener do not give advice just listen and validate even if you don’t agree
Bonus tip: This can be a great exercise for the family to do around the dinner table as well.
